WORLD ENGLISH LANGUAGE OLYMPICS
First the Exam,
Then the Olympiad
Journey
Students who register for the W.E.L.O. – TOEFL exam take part in an examination process designed to assess their English language skills. Following the W.E.L.O. exam, the first 300 selected students will earn the right to participate in the Türkiye stage. After the exam, students' results will be evaluated and the process will be completed.
About the Program
World English Language Olympics (W.E.L.O.) is a comprehensive academic olympiad based in the United Kingdom, enabling students to assess their English language skills according to international standards.
The W.E.L.O. Türkiye National Round is a key stage of this process. The National Round is not merely a competition, but a structured educational program designed to prepare students for the World Finals with trainers and experts from the United Kingdom. Students who achieve top rankings in the Türkiye National Round earn the right to represent our country at the W.E.L.O. World Finals, held in the United Kingdom with the participation of students from 68 countries. The organizational expenses of the eight-day program for students who qualify for the World Finals are covered by W.E.L.O. Participants are responsible only for their airfare and visa expenses.
Program Outcomes
Through the W.E.L.O. – TOEFL exam, students assess their English language proficiency according to international standards and gain a clearer understanding of their strengths and areas for development in reading, listening, comprehension, and language use.
During the National Round, students have the opportunity to work with trainers and experts from the United Kingdom. By actively using English, they develop their presentation, effective communication, academic expression, and problem-solving skills. While analyzing different topics and situations, they gain experience in structuring, supporting, and clearly expressing their ideas.
Through teamwork and the competitive environment, students strengthen their collaboration, critical thinking, ability to evaluate different perspectives, and joint problem-solving skills, while also gaining first-hand experience of international competition culture.
Students who progress to the international stages interact with peers from different countries, developing their intercultural communication skills and global perspectives. This experience supports their confidence in international academic environments and helps prepare them for their future educational journeys.
